Ever notice how when its been really dry that only the weeds grow well in your yard. Well as a plan reviewer and Inspector I can say that during this "drought" in new home construction that the "weeds" are out there and making a mess of things.
Seems that the best contractors are not willing to cut their prices like the fly by night guys. The better contractors are not grabbing up new businsess in these parts but the "weeds" are popping up all over.
Now some may feel that is rather harsh to label them as "weeds" , so let me explain. The Code is a minimum Code. The better contractors have no problem building to Code and more than likely exceed it. The "weeds" on the other hand are those contractors out there that when times are good they rack up more Code violations on a single dwelling than most of the quality contrators do in a decade.
My problem is I can't just mow them down or pull them and throw them on the burn pile..
Consider more than just the price. Consider the quality. If price was all there was to chosing a home building contractor then it'd be easy . Make a trip down to the Building Inspection department and ask to see inspection reports (they are public records in this State) and check with some of the Contractor's recent customers.
You can never be to careful.
